A MEDICAL STAFF of boardcertified family practitioners and a consulting staff who represent a full range of specialties practice at Homer Memorial Hospital The 60bed hospital offers all the medical services you would expect in a modern primary care facility including telemetrymonitored beds in the medicalsurgical unit designated wings for orthopedics obstetrics and pediatrics and an efficient Intensive Care Unit Teleradiology capabilities network the hospital with medical specialists in Shreveport 50 miles to the southwest Land and air medical transport is available for patients requiring transfer to a tertiary care facility
History
Homer Memorial Hospital was established by the Homer Board of Selectmen as a living memorial to those men who made the supreme sacrifice during World War II The hospital first opened its doors on July 14 1949 operated by the Louisiana Baptist Convention
In 1966 under the administration of Mr Glen Bays the hospital was expanded to include more rooms and provide additional services
In 1988 a major renovation project updated the hospital giving it a fresh more modern appearance
In 2007 Inpatient rooms were renovated to include new beds furniture flatscreen TV new bathroom fixtures wood flooring and fresh paint
In 2008 a 5000 square foot state of the art Emergency Room was constructed Upon completion of the new ER the previous emergency area was renovated to become a dedicated outpatientvisiting physician clinical area
