About Us
60 Years of Serving Our Region
Arkansas Methodist Medical Center is a Beacon of Health Hope and Healing

Our beginning dates back to the old Dickson Memorial Hospital that opened its doors in 1907 That facility served well for many years but as the area prospered and the population grew it became apparent that a larger hospital was needed

In 1941 the nonprofit Community Hospital Corporation was formed and construction of a new hospital was begun However World War II intervened and the hospital was not completed until 1949 The 71 bed Community Methodist Hospital was formally dedicated on October 16th 1949 That same day the first baby was delivered at the new hospital The following day 14 patients were transferred from the old Dickson Memorial Hospital

Community Methodist Hospital continued to grow with major additions in 1959 1969 1972 1974 and 1980 In July of 1981 the name was officially changed from Community Methodist Hospital to Arkansas Methodist Hospital

Our Mission Our medical center continues to grow and our staff of dedicated professionals continue to fulfill our mission statement of providing the highest quality healthcare and promoting wellness to the people and communities we serve thus establishing AMMC as the firstchoice for healthcare

Since 1949 weve been fulfilling this mission one bold step at a time In 1991 we launched an ambitious fourphase capital improvement plan that brought about a Helipad and accommodations for mobile units providing specialized diagnostic and treatment services Our stateoftheart Critical Care Unit was opened in 1992 to be followed by new Emergency Room facilities in 1998 In 1999 a 50000 square foot Professional Office Building was dedicated featuring a full service Wellness Center that is open to the public

In 2000 Arkansas Methodist Hospital once again addressed the growing needs of our patients with a 70000 square foot renovation and new construction project New areas included Outpatient Surgery the Heart Catheterization Lab MRI Labs and a Respiratory Therapy Department Meanwhile the Obstetrics Department was completely renovated featuring modern birthing suites The hospital also received a facelift with a new entrance and a relocation of our admissions and business offices to supplement patient convenience And in 2005 the name was officially changed again to Arkansas Methodist Medical Center to better reflect the widerange of services now offered at AMMC

Currently AMMC is moving forward on constructing a 39 million Patient Tower This fivestory stateoftheart facility will add 64 private patient rooms a womens center replacement wellness center expand surgery and imaging as well as a new cafeteria AMMC is also in the midst of developing a continuing care retirement community on nearly 53 acres off of Carroll Road The first phase of construction will include a 13 million assisted living facility which is expected to open in fall 2011

So while many changes have occurred since our humble beginnings in 1949 one thing remains the same our commitment to providing our patients with the best care possible Thats our promise to you at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center

Mission Statement
Arkansas Methodist Medical Center is A Beacon of Health Hope and Healing and for more than 60 years AMMC has been committed to improving the lives of residents throughout Northeast Arkansas and Southeast Missouri However our focus is not just fighting illness but preventing it all together We strive to provide the latest education and wellness tools that keep you and your family healthy

Our pledge remains stedfast despite unprecedented economic struggles here at home and throughout the nation These times combined with healthcare reform and reimbursement cuts have required that all hospitals aggressively examine their bottom lines Nevertheless Arkansas Methodist is weathering these challenges far better than most hospitals Strong leadership and financial management from generations of past and present board members have positioned us to continue providing comprehensive compassionate healthcare to those who need us most In fact just this year construction began on Chateau on the Ridge a continuing care retirement community Massive planning and infrastructure development have been completed allowing contractors to begin work on this community which will truly change senior lives In addition extensive planning has resumed on development of a patient tower at our medical center campus Both of these major projects will have an extensive impact on healthcare and the entire economic landscape of the region

Overall the true measure of a healthcare system lies within the quality of services it provides Thanks to our physicians and staff the level of care provided at AMMC is regularly unmatched in governmental ratings and patient satisfaction surveys This equals a mark of quality often unachieved by much larger healthcare providers

For six decades and for years to come our unwavering commitment to the future is to continue to provide health and wellness services that individually improve lives so that our communities can grow and prosper Thats been our common thread of caring since 1949
