History

The concept of Womans originated in the mid 1950s when Drs Julius H Mullins Sr Jack Jones and Cary Dougherty along with 16 other physicians dreamed of a facility that would be centered on the unique needs of women and newborn babies In 1968 Womans opened its doors becoming one of the first womens specialty hospitals in the nation

Since that time our 328bed private nonprofit organization has become one of the largest womens specialty hospitals in the United States and is recognized throughout the country for its innovative programs for women and their families Weve added multiple service lines and resources including home care a mobile mammography program and Womans Center for Wellness to provide the women infants and children in our community a vast array of preventative health services

Weve broadened our focus and reach over the years to provide the women in our community comprehensive services from obstetrical care to oncology and fitness services to heart health screenings Because our scope of offerings extends much further than our hospital doors weve updated our name to Womans which more clearly encompasses the breadth of our wellness programs and community outreach
