WMC was established as Williamson County Hospital by an act of the state legislature in 1957 With 50 beds and seven physicians the hospital treated its first patients in January 1958 The HillBurton Act provided federal funds to build the hospital meaning its mission included a focus on providing care without discrimination and regardless of ability to pay In all ways Williamsons beginning was driven by the desire to provide care to show compassion to help neighbors That desire is still a guiding principle today
