Description

At the Teen Health Centre THC we envision a community where our young people achieve mental and physical health by making informed choices regarding the development of their total being mind body and spirit It is our vision that through the services we provide in a welcoming and respectful environment we can empower youth to do just that make healthy choices

We currently have over 14000 active clients with an average 200 new clients
a month

We offer over 40 programs and services to the community

We currently operate 27 points of service throughout the county

Although our services are generally targeted at youth between the
ages of 12 and 24 we also have many resources available to parents
educators and other community members

In a recent survey 95 of our clients indicate that they rely on the
confidential nonjudgmental care they receive

We average 1435 medical visits per month

We average 600 visits for counselling each month

We see over 4000 youth per year for group services such as

anger management eating disorders selfesteem and leadership training

Our Street Health homeless initiative has over 350 families registered

Our Kids Alliance program served over 5000 children in 2006 through
community initiatives

We currently have an average of 4700 hits per month


History

1969 centre opens for emerging hippy phenomenon in downtown Windsor

1975 centre has relocated several times and had a few name changes currently located at Assumption University and called Turning Point 17 staff and 30 volunteers

1979 centre is reorganized to be based on total person health care model

1981 incorporated as Phoenix Wholistic Health Centre

1985 in downtown Windsor opened a small clinic for adolescents

1989 Ministry of Health approves funding as a Community Health Centre
dedicated to adolescents Operating name is now Teen Health Centre

1992 renovations are complete and the Centre is established at 1585 Ouellette Ave

1996 11000 active clients 30 programs and services and 35 staff

1998 Street Health homeless initiative funded by MOH service provided to all ages

2005 Early Years funded by the MOH a program for mothers 1224 years of age and their children ages 06

2005 Community Programs moves to a new site 1487 Ouellette due to space limitations at main site

2006 Diabetes program for all ages funded by MOH

2007 14000 active clients over 40 programs and services and 75 staff
