To meet the health care needs of a growing state Straub expanded its services and facilities opening the hospital in 1973 and establishing a network of neighborhood clinics on Oahu Lanai and visiting specialists on the Big Island Today Straub offers you the services of nearly 200 physician specialists

History

History of Straub
Straub Clinic amp Hospital was founded in 1921 as quotThe Clinicquot by Dr George F Straub Dr Straub was educated in Germany and came to practice in Hawaii in 1907 In 1910 he conceived the idea of forming a group of physicians to provide better more specialized care for his patients It however took over 10 years to bring this idea to fruition

The first step in 1912 was the construction of a wood frame building at 410 South Beretania Street Here Dr Straub established his office on the first floor and his home on the second By 1916 his practice had grown to the point that he recruited an assistant Dr Guy C Milnor Looking to the future Dr Straub began to envision a clinic providing specialized care in five major fields of medicine Obstetrics and Gynecology Surgery Internal Medicine ENT and Clinical Pathology To this end he next enlisted Dr Arthur Jackson a specialist in internal medicine in 1920 and the group carried on for a short time as Straub Milnor and Jackson

In the latter part of 1920 Dr Howard Clarke resigned his commission in the United States Army and joined as a specialist in Eye Ear Nose and Throat Dr Eric A Fennel also left the Army about this time and joined the group as pathologist

In January 1921 the five founding partners formally organized themselves as a legal partnership At Dr Straubs insistence the group he founded did not bear his name and it was to be known simply as quotThe Clinicquot

Dr Harry L Arnold Sr specialist in internal medicine and radiology joined The Clinic in 1921 Dr Joseph E Strode a general surgeon joined in 1922 and Dr Joseph Palma a pediatrician joined in 1924

Dr Straubs influence on quotThe Clinicquot was profound and distinctive His favorite mottoes were quotTo win the race or die runningquot and quotTake care of patients and they will take care of youquot Another motto derived from his name was quotSuch true rivalry as unity begetsquot

In 1952 after years of success and growth quotThe Clinicquot was renamed quotStraub Clinicquot in honor of Dr Straub Dr Straub died in May 1966

In the time since Dr Straubs death there have been major and dramatic changes at Straub A brief chronology of these events includes

Straub Hospital
January 6 1970 ground was broken for a 159bed hospital and adjacent parking structure Later that year the Straub Clinic Partnership became a corporation and renamed Straub Clinic Inc February 4 1973 it became Straub Clinic amp Hospital and Straub Hospital opened it doors

Pali Momi Clinic
Straub opened its first satellite clinic on the Leeward side of Oahu in 1977 The clinic eventually outgrew its first location and moved to the Pali Momi Medical Center Office Building in January 1991 In September 2001 the satellite moved to its current site and was renamed the Straub Pearlridge Clinic

2nd satellite clinic opened in 1982

Opened in 1986

Mililani Clinic
Opened March 1988

Kailua Clinic
Opened in October 1991

Lanai Clinic
Opened Fall of 1991

Doctors On Call
Waikiki clinics merged with Straub in 1994

Pearlridge Clinic
In September 2001 Pali Momi satellite moved to a new location and was renamed the Pearlridge Clinic


Straub merged with Kapiolani and Wilcox under the parent company Hawaii Pacific Health on December 21 2001 Hawaii Pacific Health is committed to provide the highest quality health care and services to the people of Hawaii and the Pacific Region
