History

In 1987 HCA closed the doors at Smyrna Hospital but with the promise that they would one day build a facility to meet the needs of the growing community In 1988 HCA opened a standalone emergency department For more than 10 years Southern Hills Medical Center at Smyrna a sixbed emergency department has not only seen the growth in Smyrna but experienced it With more than 18000 visits each year the small ED is proved that the communities of Middle Tennessee needed a full service hospital

As one of the fastest growing counties in Tennessee and in the country Rutherford Countys population is projected to increase 37 this decade growing to almost a quarter of a million people by 2010 Located at the center of the areas strongest growth it will be convenient to most residents And because it is less than eight miles from the interstate 840 loop the hospital is accessible to residents of nearby Williamson and Wilson counties
