St Francis Regional Medical Center has a rich tradition of providing quality health care for the people living in Scott Carver and western Dakota counties Founded by a small group of Franciscan Sisters in 1938 St Francis has grown from a small community hospital to a comprehensive highquality regional medical center rapidly expanding to meet the needs of this fastgrowing area

History
Our History
In 1938 five Franciscan Sisters purchased the county poorhouse and opened the St Francis Hospital and Home in Shakopee Minn
Over the years care demands increased With the support of the community a new structure was built in 1952
In 1987 the Franciscans transferred sponsorship and ownership of the hospital to the Benedictine Health System based in Duluth Minn
By October 1993 a new alliance was formed between St Francis the Benedictine Health System and HealthSpan a predecessor organization of Allina Hospitals amp Clinics
Growing health care needs and exceptional community support enabled the new St Francis Regional Medical Center to open its doors in July 1996
Today St Francis Regional Medical Center is jointly owned and sponsored by the Essentia Community Hospitals and Clinics Allina Hospitals amp Clinics and Park Nicollet Health Services This unique structure combines the caring and compassion of a community hospital with the modern medical technology specialties and services found in the metro area St Francis provides a full range of inpatient outpatient and emergency care services on a collaborative medical campus with more than 30 other clinics and providers
