Our Mission
Spring Harbor Hospital offers Maines most complete range of clinically distinguished and innovative treatment programs for people of all ages recovering from mental illness
With an exquisite facility set on 50 private acres within Greater Portland Spring Harbor is southern Maines only private psychiatric treatment and recovery center Specializing in the care of children and adolescents and home of the Glickman Family Center for Child amp Adolescent Psychiatry Spring Harbor also is Maines only shortterm inpatient treatment site for youth who experience both acute mental illness and developmental disorders such as autism We also partner with adult patients of all ages in their recovery from cooccurring mental health and substances challenges all in the comfort of our spacious wellappointed campus
Upon discharge from the hospital our patients are referred to aftercare treatment with the providers of their choice The majority will receive continued treatment within our expansive network of outpatient mental health services This network exists due to a unique collaboration with Maine Medical Center which allows us to offer the most complete array of psychiatric treatment physiciantraining and medicalresearch programs north of Boston
Overseeing our work is a 21member volunteer Board of Trustees Many of these members are consumers of mental health services or have someone in their family who is Trustees hail from all corners of southern and central Maine to help ensure that Spring Harbors care is responsive to the needs of the many communities we serve
History
The notforprofit mental health resource known as Spring Harbor was formed in Greater Portland in 1999 when Maine Medical Center purchased the forprofit Jackson Brook Institute psychiatric hospital and its affiliated Smith House Counseling Centers In October 2001 Spring Harbor became the freestanding mental health hospital of MaineHealth the integrated healthcare delivery system for southern central and western Maine
Today Spring Harbor plays both a regional and local role in mental health care in Maine First it serves as a regional provider of services working with individuals hospitals and other organizations from across Maine to support the delivery and development of mental health services in communities statewide Secondly Spring Harbor provides service at the local level fulfilling its mission as southern Maines comprehensive provider of inpatient and outpatient services for individuals experiencing mental illness and dual disorders concerns
