Riverview Psychiatric Center assists clients toward recovery by providing support treatment and care to persons with the severe mental illness Riverview does this in strong collaboration with community providers client family members and the clients natural support systems
Purpose
The Riverview Psychiatric Center RPC is a 92 bed acute care inpatient psychiatric hospital operated by the State of Maine Riverview treats any referred and appropriate adult who require intensive 24hour psychiatric services from the following counties Androscoggin Cumberland Franklin Kennebec Knox Lincoln Oxford Sagadahoc Somerset Waldo and York All services are provided without regard to race creed color sex national origin ancestry age physical handicap or ability to pay
Riverview Psychiatric Center is the only treatment facility fully operated by the State of Maine for these counties provides recovery services in an involuntary inpatient hospital setting for those who require a secure and safe setting and those who require extended periods of inpatient treatment andor rehabilitation Riverview is also the only State operated Forensic hospital providing a wide range of psychiatric services to the correction system and the Maine court system including care for those committed under the criminal statutes for observation and evaluation Stage III those determined Incompetent to Stand Trail IST and those committed to the State as Not Criminally Responsible NCR These are individual who require highly specialized programs of both psychiatric care and security not available elsewhere in Maine
