HISTORY OF OSF SAINT FRANCIS MEDICAL CENTER
The story of OSF Saint Francis Medical Center began more than 130 years ago in 1877 when five pioneering women arrived in Peoria These Sisters soon formed their own religious community The Sisters of the Third Order of St Francis and began working with the sick and injured in this young but growing community on the banks of the Illinois River The first hospital located in a twostory frame house was the start of todays OSF Saint Francis Medical Center a facility licensed for 616 beds with more than 5300 employees and a medical staff greater than 800
