History

A community that has vision is a community that will continue to thrive That statement rings especially true when planning for the health needs of a community

The vision of the Oak Valley Hospital District came to reality on June 18 1968 by a community general election The community sought a long term way to ensure excellent health services that would continue to be delivered locally At that time the only hospital in the Oakdale area was the 32bed Oakdale Municipal Hospital owned by the City of Oakdale

In 1969 nearly a year following the formation of the district a study was conducted that affirmed the old hospital needed to be replaced by a new modern facility The study also recommended that the hospital be built to accommodate a growth of up to 49 beds

On November 3 1970 the hospital districts voters authorized a 175 million general bond for the construction of a new hospital In 1973 the new facility was completed

Numerous local residents including business people physicians and community organizations were involved in the planning process making community presentations and rallying support to build the new hospital

Our vision lives on
Thirty two years later that vision of providing high quality healthcare to the local community still lives on Today thousands of community residents are treated annually through services such as inpatient and outpatient skilled nursing home healthcare and community health centers And the hospital is ever expanding and changing to meet the needs of this growing community

In May 1987 the District purchased the longterm care facility adjacent to the Oak Valley Hospital campus In November 1989 Occupational Health Services were added to the long list of outpatient services available A new administrativeconference building was added in April 1990 This building houses many of the community education classes and the various support groups that take place on the Oak Valley Hospital campus

Imaging services have expanded to include satellite radiology office for outpatients in March 1990 In February 1992 construction of a new Emergency Department was completed The result has been the continued enhancement of emergency services provided to the local community

A rural health medical and dental clinic was established in 1994 to provide access to health services for those community residents who are less fortunate This health center has been vital to improving the overall health of the community In 1996 a second rural health center was developed in Riverbank Our newest rural health center was established in December of 2004 in Escalon

Improving your way of life is Oak Valley Hospitals goal That is why we are building a brand new hospital Employees volunteers board members foundation members and the community gathered the afternoon of December 3 2008 for a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of construction for the new hospital Completion of the 123000squarefoot hospital is anticipated by summer 2011
