History

Mendota Community Hospital opened its doors on June 10 1951 The hospital was named as a memorial to all who made the supreme sacrifice in World Wars I amp II

A bronze plaque located at the entrance to the building simply states A memorial to the heroes of our community we must not forget The laying of the cornerstone occurred on October 2 1949 Residents former residents business people and corporations of Mendota and the surrounding communities donated all the funds required to build and equip the original hospital The hospital was in every sense of the word a community project

For many years the facility built in 1951 served the health care needs of the area Through the years as technological advances were made services added and health care needs changed the hospital underwent remodeling and new construction In 1980 the ICU and ER were added in 1989 a 7543 square foot surgery room was added on the west side in 1991 Food Service was expanded and remodeled and in 1997 a building addition was completed thathouses the outpatient clinics chemotherapy and Cardiac Rehab In 1995 a building was purchased to house Home Health Major remodeling projects took place in the Medical Surgical unit in 199899 Laboratory in 2003 and Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy in 2003

Today Mendota Community Hospital is one of the larger employers in the community with over 300 employees on staff Directed by a volunteer board the Critical Access Hospital is an acute care non profit corporation
