The hospital has a long rich history The Marietta Memorial Hospital Corp was formed in 1921 by a group of local citizens who saw a need for a large centralized health care center in the community The undertaking would be a memorial to Washington County residents who lost their lives in World War I these pioneers decided A massive community fundraising and organizational campaign came to fruition when on July 9 1929 the hospital admitted its first patient

Memorial has responded through the years to the changing needs of the region adding to its structure and services to meet the health care expectations of its patients Today the hospital and its affiliates offer a lifetime of care from prenatal services through retirement living

History
The world was a different place when Marietta Memorial Hospital first opened its doors in 1929 It was the year that Herbert Hoover took office as US president when color TV pictures were transmitted in New York when The New York Stock Exchange crashed and when All Quiet on the Western Front won best picture at the Academy Awards
