One of the first recognized as a National Center of Excellence in Womens Health by the US Department of Health and Human Services Magee serves as the teaching facility for obstetrics gynecology gynecologic oncology and neonatology for the University of Pittsburgh Members of our medical staff hold academic appointments at the university and are actively involved in education and research as well as patient care

History

Since opening our doors in 1911 Magee has striven to advance the understanding of womens health and the practice of genderspecific medicine Our first patients were 14 women and their infants brought in horsedrawn ambulances to a makeshift facility at the home of Christopher Lyman Magee More than 500000 babies have been born at Magee during the ensuing years and our outpatient visits have grown to 200000 a year
