History

Built in 1965 the hospital began serving the community of Lehigh Acres located 20 miles east of Fort Myers As a result of the increase in residents and visitors to the vicinity came the hospitals first expansion in 1971 Ten years later came the recognition of the need to replace the older hospital building In December of 1983 our modern 88bed hospital opened housing one of the finest medical staff and stateoftheart equipment On December 1 2001 the hospital became a part of Health Management Associates Inc With the change in ownership and HMAs philosophy to healthcare came a new name Lehigh Regional Medical Center to better reflect the hospitals beacon role in providing health care service to eastern Lee County and further east to Hendry County Through longrange planning and attentiveness to community and patient needs LRMC continues its progression in providing needed services to our community LRMC is actively involved in community organizations special events school system activities and charitable causes in the Lehigh Acres area More than 100 physicians belong to Lehigh Regional Medical Centers medical staff providing all major medical and surgical specialties They practice individualized high quality health care Since HMA acquired the hospital a number of new physicians have been recruited to the community to complement the already existing medical staff including a cardiologist orthopedic surgeon internists nephrologist and pulmonologist Lehigh Regional Medical Center offers our community 24hour emergency services utilizes stateoftheart equipment and techniques in radiology nuclear medicine laboratory pharmacy cardiopulmonary CAT Scan MRI rehab services and mammography It has four surgical suites and is equipped to perform both major and minor types of surgery In 1996 a new medical office was built situated adjacent to the hospital In an effort to provide a significant contribution to the senior citizens of Lehigh LRMC partnered with the Lee County Government to assume the management of the Lehigh Acres Senior Center In concert with our quest for continuous quality improvement the hospital competed at the District V Sterling Quality Conference and won the area award the first time this was accomplished by the healthcare industry in Florida We went onto compete in the Florida State competition and won the States award for Greatest Organizational Impact In 1998 the hospitals ER was completely renovated from a four room unit to a ninebed stateofthe art Emergency Services Department Current hospitalwide remodeling and renovating is underway A complete renovation of the ER registration and triage was completed in early 2003 Recent additions to services include the Wound Care Clinic Pain Management Clinic and Hospitalist Program The excitement that began with HMAs acquisition continues to build throughout the hospital medical staff and community
