History

For over eighty years Glendale Memorial Hospital and Health Center has grown along with the community and has evolved into one of the regions premier healthcare providers On January 13 1926 Glendale Memorial opened as Physicians and Surgeons Hospital thanks to six Glendale community members who had a vision to expand healthcare services to the residents of south Glendale On October 11 1938 the hospital became incorporated as a nonprofit institution Opening originally with fortyseven beds the hospital expanded to 110 beds in 1942

During and after World War II the hospital served a rapidly growing community including Glendale the CrescentaCanada Valley Burbank and the eastern end of the San Fernando Valley corridor In 1957 the hospital expanded to 220 beds and an intensive care unit was added in 1958

The Physicians and Surgeons Hospital which changed its name to Memorial Hospital of Glendale in 1955 had grown from its original fortyseven beds to 310 in 1972 The hospital is now an impressive 334bed facility expanding over three city blocks Glendale Memorial Hospital offers primary service lines in heart cancer spine and womens health
