History

History
Franklin Regional Medical Center was opened in 1951 to meet the health care needs of the people of Franklin County The Hospital was built through the use of federal HillBurton funds and was formerly named Franklin Memorial Hospital

In 1986 the hospital was purchased by Health Management Associates Inc HMA based in Naples Florida HMA owns and operates facilities primarily in the southeast and southwest of the United states and is a privately held publicly traded company on the New York Stock Exchange HMA

Franklin Regional underwent major renovations in 1988 amp 1989 adding an Intensive Care Unit Exterior Faccedilade Cafeteria and other additional services at that time In 1995 amp 1996 Franklin Regional was named a Top 100 Hospital by HCIA Mercer Report

In 1999 Franklin Regional added a new stateoftheart Emergency Department and Outpatient Area This 8500 square foot addition houses 8 treatment bays with two full trauma suites as well as an orthopedic procedure room and a room for the care of pediatric patients In addition the 3000 feet of renovated space houses additional space for the Diagnostic Imaging Department and Cardiopulmonary Services

In 2001 Franklin Regional renovated the Surgical Services department to accommodate the growing demand for outpatient surgery

In 2008 Novant Health joint ventured with HMA to hold a minority interest in Franklin Regional as well as assume full responsibility of their employed physician clinics In October 2009 Novant Health took over controlling interest of Franklin Regional and the hospital began full integration into the Novant Health System Novant Health a notforprofit organization serves more than five million residents from Virginia to South Carolina In March of 2010 the hospital appointed Jason Proctor as president of Franklin Regional
