History

Delta Regional Medical Center began its legacy of communitybased health care in the 1950s as Washington County General Hospital Since that time the hospital has continued to grow meeting the changing needs of area residents

1960s Addition of an eightbed intensive care unit four new nursing units and the enlargement of the physical therapy department laboratory and pharmacy

1972 A tenbed selfcontained Critical Care Burn Unit is created

1975 Home Health Agency brings nursing physicaloccupational therapy and speech therapy hospice care and home respiratory services to the area

1977 100 beds are added

1982 Mississippi Firefighters Memorial Burn Center is constructed

1985 Washington Countys only 24hour emergency room is opened Also a 15bed Chemical Dependency Unit is opened

1988 The Bethesda Cancer Treatment Center brings fullservice stateoftheart cancer treatment close to home

1990 Lighthouse Lodge which gives patients family members temporary living quarters close to the hospital is constructed

1993 Maternal Child Center is opened featuring comfortable fully equipped labordelivery suites where mothers may remain in one room for all stages of childbirth

1995 An 8 million dollar expansion program that included a new surgical department with the latest in surgical equipment a sixteenbed Critical Care Unit and an eightbed Pediatric Unit is completed

2000 Inpatient Rehabilitation Center and Wound Healing Center is opened Heart and Vascular Centers second advanced Cardiac Catheterization and Special Procedures lab is opened Diagnostic Imaging is acquired

2001 Renovations to Delta Regionals 24hour Level II Trauma Center are completed The Emergency Center also introduced QuikCare emergency service

2003 Abandoned business front Highway 1 is purchased and green space with trees and landscaping is created changing the appearance of the neighborhood

2004 Kings Daughters Hospital from Community Heath Systems a national forprofit company is purchased This promoted a legacy of KD to the community it has served since the early 1900s Delta Regional becomes Mississippis 9th largest medical system

2005 Solutions Geriatric Psychiatric Unit Inpatient Rehabilitation Solutions Adult Behavior Unit Diagnostic Sleep Center Endoscopy Lab Mammography Ultrasound Bone Density Xray Wound Healing Center Home Health and Hospice headquarters Marketing Managed Care Wellness Education and Program Development are moved to the West Campus Kings Daughters to fully utilize the space

2006 A 24hour Chest Pain Clinic housed in the Emergency Department is added The following services are also added Aquatic Therapy Sports Medicine and Inspirations Outpatient Counseling Program A total of 24 beds are added to the telemetry unit of the Heart and Vascular Center the Wound Care Center and Solutions Senior Care and Adult Care services

2007 Renovations on Delta Regionals main campus are initiated including a 5920 square foot expansion of the Emergency Department conversion of the former Burn Center to a stateoftheart Heart and Vascular Center a 3980 square foot expansion of the Maternal Child Center with an addition of a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
