History

Danville Regional Medical Center began with 28 women and a vision Seeing a need in the community the Ladies Benevolent Society established a facility more than 120 years ago that was christened Home for the Sick

From that modest beginning we have grown steadily in both size and capability to ensure that residents of the Dan River region can experience excellent care close to home

1884
The Ladies Benevolent Society establishes the Home for the Sick

1904
The hospital is renamed the Danville General Hospital

1922
Local philanthropist John E Hughes leaves a 250000 bequest for the
building of a more modern facility The hospital moves to its current
location on South Main Street

1924
Danville General becomes The Memorial Hospital

1966
The Ladies Benevolent Association becomes the official auxiliary to The
Memorial Hospital

1980
The hospital introduces a modern heart station that centralizes EKG and EEG
services

1983
The hospital holds its 100th anniversary celebration

1993
Memorial Hospital becomes Danville Regional Medical Center reflecting the
hospitals expanded service area and capabilities

1994
DRMC opens the Center for Radiation Oncology bringing a new level of cancer
care to the region

1995
DRMC begins construction on the south side of the hospital to add new
critical care and orthopedicneurological units

1997
The hospital introduces the Danville Regional Health System

1998
DRMC opens its second catheterization lab

2001
Expansion of the A building provides a new home for the Womens and
Childrens Center

2002
Construction begins on the Heart Center of the Piedmont

2003
The Heart Center performs the first openheart surgery in the Dan River
Region

2004
The A Building is dedicated and renamed the Landon R Wyatt Jr Tower

2006
Construction begins on the buildout of the 5th and 6th floors of the Wyatt
Tower

2007
The 5th and 6th floors of the Wyatt Tower are completed

2007
Construction begins on expansion ofthe Center for Radiation Oncology
