History

Callaway County has a rich history of providing quality care to its citizens In November 1918 a Hospital Bond Issue was authorized for the construction of Callaway County Public Hospital Construction on the Jefferson Street facility in Fulton Missouri began in May 1920 and was completed in June 1921 at a cost of 120000 for the building and lot Opening date of the Callaway County Public Hospital was June 30 1921 This was the second hospital in the State of Missouri to be erected under the law allowing counties to build and maintain public hospitals

In 1955 the hospitals name was changed from Callaway County Public Hospital to Callaway Memorial Hospital It operated under this name until it closed in 1985

In 1982 the Callaway Community Hospital Association was organized and incorporated under the laws of the State of Delaware for the purpose of operating the existing facility on Jefferson Street which was owned by Callaway County and had theretofore been operated by a Board of Trustees appointed by the governing body of Callaway County Pursuant to a Replacement Facility Agreement with the Board of Trustees of the existing facility and Callaway County the Association initiated the construction of a new 58bed acute care general hospital as a replacement for the existing facility with financing provided by the Series 1984 Bonds

On August 1 1984 a bond issue was authorized for the new replacement facility to be located at its current 20 acre tract located on State Route F in Fulton Missouri This replacement facility would include 50 medicalsurgical beds four obstetrical beds and four intensive care beds In contrast to the then existing 47 bed facility on Jefferson Street which offered predominantly inpatient services the replacement facility would offer outpatient care as well as inpatient care

Opening in 1985 Callaway Community Hospital opened as a 49 bed general acute care hospital The hospital provided a 24 hour emergency room surgical and obstetrical services and an advanced care unit

In 1996 Callaway Community Hospital purchased Fulton Medical Clinic This clinic offers three family medicine physicians and two nurse practitioners Dr George Groce and Dr Rezwan Islam offer a large range of services to meet consumer needs Dr Catherine McCray provides services for acute and chronic illnesses and specializes in womens health Sara Revelle and Kristen Oesch are nurse practitioners primarily offering women and childrens health care Walkin appointments are available Monday through Friday 830 am 430 pm and Saturdays from 800 am noon

In addition to offering specialty clinics Callaway Community Hospital also accepts orders from physicians in surrounding communities for outpatient diagnostics such as xrays and lab work Results will be sent to the ordering physician This convenient service allows County residents the opportunity to save money and time by not having to drive out of town or having to change doctors

Callaway Community Hospital is supported by a local advisory Board of Trustees whose mission is to provide the highest standards of professional healthcare services to rural communities Worth special mention is the Hospitals Auxiliary which was established in 1955 This group of dedicated individuals provides the hospital a gift shop that supports annual scholarships to area healthcare students and funds selected hospital projects and equipment
