History

We have been serving Veterans and seniors in Victoria since 1972 Although our name has changed several times since then our goal has always been the same to provide the very best in care to those we serve

In 1972 our first care facility Tillicum Lodge opened as a personal care home At that time we were called the Glendale Lodge Society

In 1974 Veterans Affairs Canada and the BC Ministry of Health went into partnership to provide health services to Veterans in residential care At that time the Veterans Memorial Pavilion was transferred to the Provincial Government forming the basis of the Priority Access Beds program

The Glendale Lodge Society administered Tillicum and Glendale Lodges acquiring Oak Bay Lodge in 1980

In 1987 the Glendale Lodge Society was renamed the Oak Bay Tillicum Care Society

In 1989 the Society was divided into the Tillicum Care Society and the Oak Bay Lodge Society

June 1992 the Tillicum Care Society was renamed the Tillicum and Veterans Care Society to reflect federal funding for 115 Priority Access Beds at the new facility to be called The Lodge at Broadmead replacing beds to be closed at Veterans Memorial Pavilion

In 1993 the Tillicum and Veterans Care Society British Columbia Ministry of Health and Veterans Affairs Canada agreed to fund a new facility The Lodge at Broadmead

The Lodge at Broadmead opened in April 1995 All residents of the old Tillicum Lodge and Veterans from the Memorial Pavilion were moved to the new facility

The Veterans Health Centre opened in 1999

During 2005 we celebrated the 10th anniversary of The Lodge opening

In 2007 the Tillicum and Veterans Care Society was renamed the Broadmead Care Society to reflect our location in the Broadmead neighbourhood of Victoria
