Physicians and healthcare professionals at Bartow Regional Medical Center provide a variety of surgical services including laparoscopy ophthalmology orthopaedics ear nose and throat ENT vascular cosmetic podiatric and urological The hospital is equipped with four surgery suites and two gastroenterology suites with procedures available through the hospitals outpatient services center The emergency services department is staffed with board certified emergency physicians and specially trained nurses 24 hoursaday 7 days a week to treat all types of emergency situations The emergency department boasts an average inandout of the ER of 2 hours

Diagnosticancillary services include a new CT scanner MRI scanning echocardiography cardiac catheterization holter monitoring mammography ultrasound pulmonary function testing neurodiagnostics nuclear medicine as well as fullservice laboratory radiology and respiratory care departments Bartow Regional Medical Center has a new Center for Therapy and Wellness on its campus adjacent to the hospital The Center for Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine also located on campus has a Medical Director who is the only board certified wound care specialist in the area

The medical center is located in Polk County which is 20102 square miles in size the fifth largest county in Florida It is larger than the state of Delaware Within these borders are things uniquely Polk County Cypress Gardens Adventure Park Bok Tower the Kissimmee River State Park the Mayfaire and Blooming Arts Festivals The Lakeland Center the Historic Polk Theatre bike and walking trails and hundreds of lakes perfect for boating fishing or water skiing

History

The City of Bartow began as Fort Blount in 1851 as a refuge from the Seminole Indians The first permanent white settlers came to the area in 1850 In 1861 the first Board of Polk County Commissioners was organized During the early months of 1867 with full approval of the settlers the County Commissioners made the decision that the seat of government for Polk County would be known as Bartow named in honor of the first confederate general to fall in the Civil War The area is one of the largest phosphate producing industrial complexes in the world Polk County produces more citrus than the State of California and Bartow has large herds of range registered beef and dairy cattle In addition a growing light industry segments financial impact increases annually

The city is governed by a commission and city manager Five commissioners are elected one of whom is chosen as mayor The city manager is appointed by the commission Regular meetings are held monthly on the first and third Mondays 630pm at City Hall
