Early Beginnings
The Martin Barrett Hospital opened in 1923 the result of generous bequeaths by community members Martin Barrett Joseph Shineberger and Margaret Roe The original hospital was a threestory brick building with 12 single patient rooms and four wards Staff dormitory rooms were on the third floor Expenses for the first six months of operation were 576010 Receipts were 333580 Appropriate for the times room charges ranged from 400 to 600 per day
