Alaska Regional was the first hospital in the state with an air ambulance program We brought the first surgical robot to Alaska and were using it for heart prostate and gynecological surgery Our campus houses the largest medical oncology group for treatment of cancer and we are home to the states first Joint Commissioncertified Primary Stroke Center We pioneered the first off pump heart surgery in the state the use of cryoablation for prostate cancer treatment catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation and we were the first in Alaska to offer laparoscopic bariatric


History

Alaska Regional Hospital was born in 1963 as Anchorage Presbyterian Hospital located at 8th and L Street downtown This predecessor to Alaska Regional was a joint venture between local physicians and the Presbyterian Church In 1976 the hospital moved to its present location on DeBarr Road and is now a 254bed licensed and accredited facility

For more than 40 years Alaska Regional has been fulfilling the medical needs of Alaskans continually improving the scope of services and skills available within the state In 1994 Alaska Regional joined with HCA giving Alaskans access to the advanced medical resources of one of the nations largest healthcare providers

With more than 1000 employees and a medical staff of over 450 independent practitioners Alaska Regional offers a broad spectrum of health services to the community The hospital is the designated Shriners clinic facility in Alaska and free immunization clinics are held monthly for area schoolchildren Other services include free prostate cancer screenings health education seminars and support groups for cancer and stroke survivors Alaska Regional is the only nonmilitary hospital in the state with its own landing strip allowing the hospitals LifeFlight Air Ambulance to transport critical care patients from the plane directly the 24hour Emergency Room Alaska Regional even offers free valet parking to patients and visitors

In 1995 1998 2001 and 2007 the hospital was accredited by The Joint Commission the nations leading healthcare monitoring organization

Alaska Regional is dedicated to supporting local events and organizations that promote healthcare and public safety in the state Some of these include the Cancer Society Muscular Dystrophy Association American Heart Association Blood Bank of Alaska Abused Womens Aid in Crisis the 5 Miler for Mens Cancer Research and many others
