Dosher Memorial Hospital is a Critical Access community hospital with 25 staffed acute care inpatient beds and 64 licensed skilled nursing center beds Named after its chief surgeon Dr Julius Arthur Dosher the people of Smithville Township voted to pay a minimal hospital tax to ensure access to quality health care locally

Approximately one mile from Cape Fear the hospital is located in the coastal historic town of Southport NC in Brunswick County The hospital is overseen by a publiclyelected Board of Trustees and generously supported by a volunteer force of nearly 200 making Dosher Hospital unique in the state of North Carolina
