History

History of Crittenton Hospital Medical Center
Since the first Crittenton Hospital opened in Detroit in the early 1900s the name quotCrittentonquot has stood for excellence in medical care with a compassionate atmosphere For many who live in Rochester and surrounding communities Crittenton Hospital Medical Center is the first place they turn to for the health of themselves and their loved ones

The Detroit location has long since closed but Crittenton Hospital Medical Center in Rochester has established a strong reputation of compassionate quality care since opening its doors in 1967

1900
The Florence Crittenton Mission opens on Brush Street in Detroit

1965
Hundreds of dignitaries gather in a horse pasture for a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Crittenton Hospital The land was donated by Howard L McGregor Jr

1967
Crittenton Hospital officially opens with about 5000 people touring the facility The initial building consisted of only the west tower

1972
Crittenton Hospital opens a new outpatient building

1974
In the spring hospital officials break ground for the new emergency room lab and surgical suites addition Later that same year construction on the hospitals new east wing begins

1985
Crittenton officials and employees celebrate the opening of the hospitals new outpatient clinic and surgery special diagnostics speech data processing and conference center

1996
Crittenton adds a seventh and eighth floor to both the east and west wings of the hospital

2001
Crittenton Hospital officially becomes Crittenton Hospital Medical Center to better represent the hospitals breadth of services

2002
Crittenton launches an ambitious 86 million Reinvestment into its facilities services and communities The project includes a free parking structure 45000squarefoot north addition with twostory atrium lobby expanded emergency room enhanced surgical suites and more

2006
The Reinvestment Project and related facility expansion was completed The North Addition costing about 30 million offers an impressive glass exterior which includes a fountain a Starbucks Coffee shop and a Gift Shop Also housed in the North Addition is a 106seat stateoftheart auditorium executive offices new hightech conference rooms and training rooms

An integral part of the Reinvestment Project included a 10 million expansion which nearly triples the size of the Emergency Department allowing for a broader scope of specialty services including Cardiac Care and Family Express Care

The South Addition costing 32 million added 25000 square feet which expanded the Lab PreAdmission Testing Special Diagnostics and Cardiac Rehabilitation Another 8 million was invested in a 500space parking deck along with 6 million for the expansion of Women and Childrens Services including a totally remodeled Birthplace

Internal renovations included a new Crittenton Wound Management Center a new cafeteria and additional renovations completed in the areas of Admitting Diagnostic Imaging Central Sterile Processing Medical Records Information Systems and others
