The Canterbury Charity Hospital Trust is a registered charitable trust formed to provide free elective day surgery and medical consultations for some people in our Canterbury community who would otherwise not have access to such services

The Canterbury Charity Hospital Trust has been established by the community for the community Numerous leading doctors nurses technologists and business professionals have volunteered their time and expertise to the Charity Hospital We provide a service to the area covered by the Canterbury DHB We are not government funded and rely on donations grants and support from the wider community

Others in the community help with the daytoday running of the hospital in terms of cleaning catering secretarial support and so much more Together we can all make a huge difference to the health and wellbeing of our community as a whole

Mr Philip Bagshaw a general surgeon and associate professor recognised the need for a charity hospital when he realised that no government would be able to meet all the needs in healthcare

He is strongly supported by his wife Dr Sue Bagshaw who works as a GP in youth health including mental and sexual health Dr Randall Allardyce a researcher who works with both the University of Otago and the University of Canterbury and Mr Brian Stokes a Christchurch lawyer who has long been involved in community health
