DrP Vadamalayan our founder and a great visionary devoted his life to public service and to the health care service for the people down south Tamil Nadu He started his selfless and tireless medical service in the early 1930 He practiced quotEvidence based medicinequot to provide ethical timely and effective treatment for the ailing people from all over south TamilnaduA 10 bedded clinic at the palace road Madurai with modern equipments like 300 MA XRay Machine an unknown entity at that time was a boon to the people in and around Madurai at that period

DrVadamalayan was doyen among medical professionals of yester years His meritorious service in health care was acknowledged aptly by quotRao Bahadur Awardquot

He was an honorary surgeon till retirement at the Government Erskine hospital and consultant visiting surgeon till his life time

Besides health care sector he had a very keen interest in uplifting the academic arena of Madurai to bring in quality education to reach the unreached and the following are the few of his contributions in academics

When Madurai Kamaraj University was started as Madurai University DrPVadamalayan was the first syndicate member for life time nominated by the then Chief minister ThiruCNAnnadurai He was instrumental in bringing Madurai Medical College He was the founder president of SVN college and Jeyaraj Nadar School He was in the administrative board of the The American College and helped to bring in various departments

His philosophy of social responsibility received its most enduring expression when he founded and presided the Cheshire homea Home for aged in Madurai from 19681972 He was the president of the Red Cross Society for lifetime in Madurai He was always keenly aware of the need to help others and during his lifetime he helped many quietly and without fanfare

During one of his felicitations he donated his prize money for the best outgoing students in the field of pathology and anatomy As an honor the award is named after him
