Description

Umri Christian Hospital is a Free Methodist Mission hospital situated in a small village by name Umri in Central India It was started in the year 1951 by Dr Paul Yardy a young medical missionary from the United States with a vision to provide quality medical care to the poor and needy at an affordable cost Today UCH is a 60bedded hospital with fullfledged medical facilities

Umri is surrounded by a good number of tribal villages which have no medical facility at all Apart from some small clinics there are no hospitals as such at a radius of about 60 kilometers in and around Umri Our aim at UCH is not only to provide good medical care to these poor villagers but also to share the love of Christ through our healing ministry

History

History
The history of Umri Christian Hospital is a thrilling experience of Gods continuous leading and guidance through the past 50 plus years It is a history of humble sacrifices and dedication of several overseas medical missionaries native medical doctors nurses administrators technicians departmental staff board members and financial supporters It is a history of constant hard work concern and care for the sick people and for their souls and is the answer to the prayers of many prayer warriors

Umri is a small tribal village located in Yavatmal district in the state of Maharashtra in Central India Being a very remote area with a population of hardly 500 people in the early years it lacked basic medical educational and transport facilities

In the year 1881 the F M Church started their ministry here The medical ministry was started in the year 1894 in Yavatmal with Miss Celia Ferries the first FM missionary to come to this region Celia Ferries along with her husband Mr VG McMurrays served in India until 1903 In 1909 missionaries SD Casberg and his wife Jessie Casberg came to Umri They built a hut on the present Umri Christian Hospital property that was given to the FM mission by the government The light lit by them started blazing and many more came in to help

It was in May 1951 that Dr Paul W Yardy his wife Jessie and their three children came to Umri and started Umri Christian Hospital They served in Umri until 1965 After him several overseas missionary doctors followed and ministered here for a few years until 1976 From then on the burden of this ministry has been carried over by Indian missionary doctors and nurses and is still continuing

Today UCH stands as a blessing not only to the people of Umri but also to the people from all the nearby villages who come here for treatment
