With 30 licensed beds SMSC is small enough to provide the utmost personal attention to every patient In 2008 SMSC received the Summit Award by Press Ganey Associates for the highest patient satisfaction in the country

Studies show that the quickest way to heal after surgery is by being active That is why we want you to be involved in your care Our hospital was designed to promote wellness and healing The wide hallways soft hues balconies and expansive windows are there to help you feel better sooner Everyone on our staff from nurses to guest services and Admissions Representatives really understand what patients need

We have both physicians and midwives on staff which means you have a choice in your obstetrical care We have six operating rooms twelve birthing suites and eighteen medical or surgical patient suites As a smaller facility we are able to provide you with personal attention when you want it and quiet time when you need it

A joint project of Sutter Health and Santa Cruz Medical Clinic SMSC was completed and opened to patients in March of 1996 The hospital is fully accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations JCAHO

History

In the early 1990s North Santa Cruz County residents were served exclusively by a religious sponsored hospital Patients physicians and reproductive rights advocates began to look for another hospital alternative The Santa Cruz Medical Clinic a multispecialty medical group approached Sutter Health with an idea to build a unique hospital whereby only inpatientoutpatient and surgery maternity services would be offered Sutter Health a large not for profit nonreligious northern California Health care system listened to this idea

Using patient feedback from its many other hospitals and input from the Santa Cruz Medical Clinic physicians a patient friendly environment with state of the art facilities and medical equipment was created for Santa Cruz county residents A joint project of Sutter Health and Santa Cruz Medical Clinic Sutter Maternity amp Surgery Center was completed and opened to patients in March of 1996 The hospital has 30 licensed beds and is fully accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations

In order to ensure this new hospital was responsive to community medical needs a local Board of Directors was appointed and nursing and other support personnel hired and the Sutter Maternity and Surgery caring culture evolved Since its opening in March of 1996 Sutter Maternity and Surgery Center has received international acclaim for its facility design and innovative clinical programs In 1996 Sutter Maternity and Surgery won a national design award from Modern Healthcare Magazine for what judges described as a quotwelcome departure from institutionalizedbased carequot
