Shroffs Foundation Trust has had its presence in Ekalbara since 1992 It has been addressing various issues related to agriculture safe drinking water soil and water conservation health and education to serve the local population During the year it has implemented programs like CHANGE Protecting Child RightsIKEA Link Workers Pogram Irrigation Management Program as well as has supported Pani Samitis and local schools
CHANGECommunication for Health Advocacy in NRHM Grassroots Empowerment program is being implemented in 83 villages of Padra block since 2010 with an aim to strengthen the ability of rural communities to access quality public health services by using participatory communication techniques During the year 600 health workers were given information about the project through a Dengue workshop 8 stake holders were taken on 3 days exposure visit to an NGO in Khed Brhma 20 Asha workers were trained for the 3rd phase of the program
IKEAUNICEF funded project to prevent child labor protect childrens right to education in cotton fields and to ensure schooling for all the children under the age of 14 was implemented in 20 villages of Padra taluka During the year 20 childrens groups were formed with 169 members of whom 42 were trained for leadership Child protection committees were formed in 10 villages 27 participants were trained through 2 programs During CRC week 20 awareness programs were organized and 287 families were linked with government schemes for benefits
Link workers program is being implemented since 2010 in 21 villages of Padra taluka to create HIVAIDS awareness Various aspects of HIVAIDS like transmission risky behavior prevention are included in the program Wide use of condom is being promoted as well as compassionate behavior towards affected people is being advocated All pregnant women are being tested for HIV Through Youth Information Centers the program has received impetus
Capacity building of farmers through Participatory Irrigation Management Program was undertaken in collaboration with Sardar Sarovar Nigam Ltd to help farmers increase the crops yield minimize the expenses and manage and maintain the water distribution system in 20 villages of Padra taluka During the year 1309 farmers were made members subcommittees were formed in 3 villages to manage day to day administration Pani Samiti members and farmers received guidance on related issues through 2 block level seminars
With a view of supporting Pani Samitis in completing the unfinished work under Safe Drinking Water program and supporting schools to improve the quality of education it was decided to intervene in five villages through Ekalbara Center The aim was also to ensure 100 attendance of school going children This was done by conducting 15 meetings with 111 members of 4 Pani Samitis and work was completed in coordination with water department 155 children were admitted to schools bringing the total to 100 attendance This was achieved through 13 parent teacher meetings where leaders of the villages were also present Children were also exposed to scientific methods of procuring clean drinking water various methods of rain water harvesting and importance of saving environment
During the year Breed Conservation Program for Surti buffaloes was initiated in 19 villages of Padra block with the support of Gujarat Livestock Development Board 237 buffaloes were provided with artificial insemination under the project
