Description

The Inspiration
When the God creates a baby girl there is a joyous celebration the creator marvels at his creation before infusing the golden breath of Life

Liberate Mankind
For he is completely aware of this marvellous creation after all he has blessed her with the POWER TO CREATE To create to sustain to nurture and to liberate Liberate Mankind

The journey for this baby girl is tough on Earth right from the beginning From a girl child to a daughter to a sister to a wife to a mother to a GuruMaa Why such a difficult journey for her She alone holds the capacity to take it in inwards to her core Then transform it all for an outward journey like the River Ganga born in the Himalayas but gushing towards the ocean On the way she comes across several situations good bad ugly and finally before she touches the ocean she spreads herself into several small tributaries and even gives up her identity as Ganga and merges completely with Sagar Ocean

Yes this is the story of a little girl named Lalita whose extraordinary journey starts at a tender age of 16

Born to Shrimati Shanti amp Sri Bhojraj Menda on November 1 1932 married at the age of 16 to the dynamic Sri Girdhar P Hinduja son of the legendary Shrimati Jamuna and Sri Parmanand D Hinduja widowed at a young age of 30 One must remember that way back in 1962 being a widow in India was considered a full stop to Life Every aspect of life would come to a halt more so socially It was her fatherinlaw Sri P D Hinduja who took a bold step of sculpting her away from the social bondages It is then at that time and age that the true Lalita emerged as Lalita Girdhar Hinduja A personal tragedy was transformed into a flame of service

Sri P D Hinduja believed that HEALTHCARE amp EDUCATION IS EVERY CITIZENS BIRTHRIGHT and Lalitaji implemented this with all her dedication for nearly three decades of her life

She did not only dedicated herself to patients but also created an ambience and culture of a family unit at HNH by being a mother figure to all the employees including doctors and other medical staff

There was not a day when Lalitaji did not go on her rounds to comfort the patients with her graceful smile and loving eyes Just her presence made a lot of difference

Making her pathway in the healthcare service at the P D Hinduja National Hospital amp Medical Research Centre HNH a shy timid daughterinlaw and a doted upon sisterinlaw had taken her first step to serve mankind Who would have imagined these little footsteps were to leave footprints in the shifting sands of time It is with her blessings that the Hinduja Hospital Parivar was created she infused a precious value system and helped understand the true meaning of quotSelfless ServicequotShe translated our founders Sri P D Hindujas dream quotQUALITY HEALTHCARE FOR ALLquot into a reality

Her labour of love has blooms even today Her unfailing trust in each one of us has inspired us to follow her exemplary example to give sincerely of ourselves and to serve with a loving heart

Today the shell has disappeared leaving behind a pearl The Hinduja Hospital Parivar to be cherished and rejoiced Thats our Lalitaji THE MOTHER OF PEARL

History

In 1956 the society purchased a plot of land opposite Dubash House and the National Hospital was shifted in 1963 to a new building now called the East Building with 100 beds in addition expanded outpatient facilities were made available

It was soon realised that the 100bed hospital would not be adequate along with the space for Medical Research Centre which was the ultimate aim Accordingly Dubhash House along with the land on which it stood was purchased in 1967

Unfortunately Shri Parmanand Hinduja passed away in 1971 before concrete steps could be taken to implement his ideas Thereafter his sons carried forward the legacy of their father of translating his dream into a reality

In 1976 the society renamed the National Hospital as the quotP D Hinduja National Hospital and Medical Research Centrequot as a humble tribute to the Founders pioneering efforts to bring modern health care services within the reach of a common man

The Hinduja brothers entered into a collaborative arrangement with the worldrenowned Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston the oldest and largest of the teaching hospitals associated with the Harvard Medical School for assistance in planning equipping and staffing the new complex

Detailed plans were formulated to construct a 16 storey building on the newly purchased plot and it was also decided to add two more floors to the east building The year 1986 was a landmark in the history of the Hinduja National Hospital On August 16th the dream was realised with the commissioning of the new 300bed tertiary care hospital complex

The project funded by the family had stateoftheart equipment and was staffed by a team of brilliant doctors amongst whom many were qualified and experienced from abroad
