Madurai Kidney Centre and Transplantation Research Institute was started in 1987 as a specialized centre for exclusive renal care With growing support and recognition from both patients and referring doctors we have shown a steady growth and in March 1992 we shifted to its present location on 66 B2 Sivagangai Road with extended facilities in both Nephrology and Urology Today we offer a comprehensive Nephro Urology service with sophistication sincerity and dedication Our aim is to offer Total Kidney Care all under one roof in a cost effective ethical and scientific manner It is a Mission with Vision to be accomplished with the help guidance and cooperation of one and all

Man is not the creature of circumstances Circumstances are the creatures of menBenjamin Disraeli

To look back on one own life position and deeds if not achievements is always sprinkled with mixed feelings and emotions I always believe that I should be the last person to judge myself and I always value the opinion of others in this context I am also aware that different people would judge me differently I accept the verdict of each one of them with humility and conviction

Madurai Kidney Centre was started in a rented building on 06071987 with 7 beds one Hemodialysis unit and 6 staff members The kidney transplantation surgery was done in JJ Hospital Madurai at that time The growth of the institution was always need based In 1992 We moved in to the new building on the State High way and I resigned from Govt Service to have full control of the venture It was a painful decision to make but I realized that it is in our moments of decision that our destiny is shaped Initially we started with 25 beds and 4 Hemodialysis units Subsequently the twin theatre additional wards the extended Lab facilities were all added and in from 1995 kidney transplantation is being done in the present setup and the Hemodialysis unit was expanded with 10 machines bed strength to 50 and regular Urology service and Endo Urology were added

The biochemistry and Pathology works in the laboratory were expanded and I can say with pride that our laboratory service is equivalent to any such service available in Multispecialty centres The strength of service has been based on cost effectiveness concern for the poor and sick and uncompromising ethics in this tricking field of Dialysis and Transplantation

Today we have a 80 bedded NephroUrology Centre with seperate OP Service Dialysis Unit with 15 machines CAPD Service Post Transplant OP Intensive Renal Care facility a full fledged Urology Service with twin theatre Post Operative Ward Endo Urology Service Laparoscopic Urology Service ESWL Unit and free service for the needy

When I want to put on papers the feelings that I have towards so many loyal and helpful family members friends professional colleagues and coworkers I am overwhelmed If I am recognized for what I have done I understand and acknowledge the fact that there are a multitude of hidden heroes whose team work has made it possible I have not mentioned any names here for the fear that I may falter if I do so

We in Madurai Kidney Centre started with the motto of Total Kidney Care A Mission with Vision I know that a vision is always a lofty goal and one should be constantly striving to go anywhere near it But whenever the morale sagged and efforts appeared to slacken I would remind myself of the words of wisdom from Mahatma Gandhi Work not for a reward but never cease to do they workquot I hope that I will be able to do so in the years to come with an effective and ever supporting team that is with me
