The foundation stone at Dr Balabhai Nanavati Hospital was laid by the Late Prime Minister Mr Jawaharlal Nehru in November 1950 and the hospital opened its doors to its first patient in May 1951

History

The very first patient to be admitted to Nanavati Hospital was a man from the Harijan community he was treated free of cost the first of a long line of less fortunate people who come to the hospital for their medical treatment

This spirit is in harmony with the wishes of Mahatma Gandhi who was among the first to give his blessings to the Hospital when still in its gestation stage and who had expressed his hope that the Institution would serve and aid people from every section of society

Dr Balabhai Nanavati Hospital has grown from a 50 bed facility in a single building to over 5 buildings housing 400 beds and offers a plethora of services in practically every field of modern medicine and health care Today over 172 consultants ably supported by a large nursing paramedical and technical staff run its 44 departments

Presently it is managed by a team comprising of Shri Jagdish C Nanavati as a President Shri Suresh R Nanavati as a Chairman and Shri Priyam S Jhaveri as Vice Chairman
