Cachar Cancer Hospital amp Research Centre CCHRC is a 50bedded centre located at Meherpur in Silchar town It serves the population of the Barak river valley that includes the districts of Cachar Karimganj and Hailakandi the adjacent district of North Cachar Hills and the neighboring states of
Manipur Mizoram and Tripura The hospital sees about 3000 new patients annually A large percentage of the patients that come to the hospital seeking care are from the lower economic strata owing to their nominal incomes Most of them are daily agricultural labourer and tea garden workers The hospital consistently makes efforts to serve all its patients irrespective of their economic status with high quality care It provides the care at extremely low costs or for free to these patients

The hospital offers facilities for chemotherapy radiation therapy and surgery It has facilities for endoscopies ultrasound and Computerized TomographyCTScanT It has a telecobalt unit a surgical suite amp a chemotherapy ward for day care and in patients A multidisciplinary amp multi specialty tumour board functions every day Prevention amp palliation are high priority activities at the hospital

The hospital was established in 1996 by the vision of a group of social workers drawn from different professions who formed the Cachar Cancer Hospital Society CCHS The society now has nearly 75 members

Our Objectives
To develop the Cachar Cancer Hospital into a comprehensive cancer centre and state of the art tertiary level referral offering treatment to all irrespective of the patients socioeconomic status

To develop educational programs for medical and paramedical personnel in the various subspecialties of oncology

To contribute to basic and clinical research and to get involved in multicentre trials

Accomplishment of these objectives with the larger objective of fullfledged cancer care in the Northeastern region would need human resources development of departments and equipment
