Amala Cancer Research Centre is an integral part of Amala Institute of Medical Sciences AIMS situated amidst of 40 acres of green landscape in the valley of Vilangan Hills 8 KM from Thrissur town The Centre is started in 1982 with the idea to undertake scientific research in the area of cancer and other related branches of medical sciences both basic and applied fields and registered as an independent society in 1984 under the TravancoreCochin Literary Scientific and Charitable Societies Act 1955 The Centre is managed by the Trusteeship of Christian Missionaries CMI Devamatha Province It is a nonprofit organization and is recognized under Income Tax Act Section 35 1 ii with which the money donated to the centre will be 100 tax free It received a sanction from Govt of India to receive donation in the form of cash or instruments from foreign institutionsindividuals for undertaking research It got recognition from Indian Council of Medical Research ICMR Dept of Scientific and Industrial Research DST Council of Scientific and Industrial Research CSIR and Dept of Biotechnology DBT and these Governmental bodies provided project grants to the Centre from 1984 onwards

Centre has a Managing Director Deputy Managing Director Research Director and has a separate Governing Body Executive Committee and Research Advisory Council These bodies have eminent scientists or educationalists from several Institutions of India The Centre with its remarkable facility and expertise in cancer research has shown its excellence during the last 27 years

Amala Cancer Research Centre is recognized by University of Calicut and Mahatma Gandhi University Kottayam for the PhD programme in the areas of Biochemistry Immunology and Microbiology Total 62 students have received PhD degree through the Centre during the last 27 years Presently the centre has 6 Scientists and enrolled 25 students for PhD degree

The Centre has published nearly 400 original research papers during the last 25 years since its inception These papers have appeared in National and International journals of repute and generously cited in Scientific Journals Centre also published one annual publication Amala Research Bulletin that documents the work ongoing in the centre
