The Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine UK ATCM is a professional organisation founded in 1994 by Traditional Chinese Medicine TCM Practitioners in the UK

Dedicated to excellence in the practice of TCM it promotes proper professional qualifications and the highest standards in the profession In November 2003 the ATCM merged with British Society of Chinese Medicine founded in 2001 and Zhong Shan Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture Association founded in 1987 to form a new ATCM with wider representation while maintaining the same high standards

Traditional Chinese Medicine is one of the worlds most ancient medical systems It is a distinct and independent system originating from China more than 2000 years ago and has become increasingly accepted by the population in the UK over the past two decades

A Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner uses Chinese herbal medicine TCM acupuncture moxibustion cupping Qi Gong and Tui Na therapeutic massage or a combination of these therapies It takes several years of specialised study to understand the theories and the principles of TCM in order to be proficient in the practice TCM It has been proven to be very effective in the management of many conditions and has been safely practised for centuries It is only safe in the hands of qualified practitioners and could be harmful if administered by inadequately trained persons It is essential therefore that before receiving TCM therapies one should look for a qualified practitioner
