The Northeast Mental Health Centre NEMHC is the largest mental health service provider in northeastern Ontario NEMHC has campuses in North Bay and Sudbury The North Bay campus consists of 162 adult inpatient beds while the Sudbury campus has 12 childrens mental health bedsThe Northeast Mental Health Centre NEMHC is a specialized mental health centre that provides services to people throughout the region of northeast Ontario suffering from severe and persistent mental illness

Based on a recovery philosophy of care NEMHC works with other service providers patients and their families in the design and implementation of care Programs include specialized adult mental health seniors mental health forensic psychiatry outreach programs and a regional childrens psychiatric service

MISSION

Based on the recovery philosophy of care the NEMHC provides services to
people of all ages with severe complex and persistent mental health needs
in partnership with other

Using a holistic approach sensitive to the diversity of the people and
communities we serve NEMHC provides assessment consultation treatment
rehabilitations and education in inpatient and community settings

We provide leadership in teaching and research and work with our partners to
enhance the quality and capacity of the mental health addictions and
forensic systems

We are working closely with the North Bay General Hospital and Sudbury
Regional Hospital to transfer local and district mental health services

History

The Northeast Mental Health Centre has been providing mental health services to the northeast Ontario region for 50 years as the Ontario Hospital the North Bay Psychiatric Hospital Network North in Sudbury Sudbury Algoma Hospital and as we know it today the Northeast Mental Health Centre

2007 October NEMHC celebrates 50 years providing mental health services to northeast Ontario and focuses its energies on being the specialized mental health service provider for the entire region

2007 NEMHC transfers district acute services serving Sudbury and Manitoulin to the Hocircpital reacutegional Sudbury Regional Hospital before 1999 these services were provided by Network North

2005 The Government divests NBPH to the Northeast Mental Health Centre

2000 Network North officially becomes the Northeast Mental Health Centre Centre de santeacute mentale du nordest

1999 Health Services Restructuring Commission recommends the creation of the Northeast Mental Health Centre to assume governance and management of Network North Algoma Hospital and the pending divestment of the North Bay Psychiatric Hospital

1989 Official name change from Sudbury Algoma Hospital to Network North The Community Mental Health Group

1981 NBPH accommodates 300 inpatients and runs outpatient and community services throughout the northeast

1981 Official name change from Sudbury Algoma Sanatorium to the Sudbury Algoma Hospital

1968 Outpatient services and 14 bed Child Care Unit opens at Sudbury Algoma Sanatorium

1967 Ontario Hospital changes its name to the North Bay Psychiatric Hospital and remains under the Government

1957 Ontario Hospital North Bay opens to serve northeast Ontario is owned and operated by the Government of Ontario and can accommodate 1200 patients

1952 Sudbury Algoma Sanatorium opens 163 beds
