The McGill University Health Centre MUHC located in Montreal Quebec is one of the most comprehensive university health centres in North America

The MUHC is a University Health Centre affiliated with McGill University and consists of the Montreal Childrens Montreal General Royal Victoria and Montreal Neurological hospitals as well as the Montreal Chest Institute The most recent member of the MUHC is the Lachine Hospital and CamilleLefebvre Pavillon

Our Mission
Clinical Care Our multidisciplinary teams of healthcare professionals provide tertiary and quaternary care to patients from across Quebec and elsewhere We also provide primary and secondary care and trauma emergency services to adults and children in the Montreal region The eight clinical missions of the MUHC are Pediatric Medicine The Montreal Children s Hospital Medicine Surgery Neurosciences Womens Health Mental Health Cancer Care and Lachine amp Camille Lefebvre

Research The Research Institute of the MUHC is an internationally recognized biomedical and healthcare hospital research centre The Institute supports over 500 researchers as well as 1000 graduate and postdoctoral students It operates more than 300 laboratories devoted to a broad spectrum of fundamental and clinical research and it produces over 1400 publications per year

Teaching The MUHC prides itself on the quality and rigour of its clinical and scientific training Each year close to 3000 people train at the MUHC including 825 medical and surgical residents 1075 nurses 450 medical students and 525 alliedhealth students Continuing education programs are also an integral part of providing the best patient care All physicians at the MUHC are crossappointed to the McGill University Faculty of Medicine

The Queacutebec Ministry of Health and Social Services created four integrated university health networks RUIS across Quebec in 2003 The MUHC is the university hospital in the McGill hospital network The affiliated regions include central and western Montreal the western part of the Monteacuteregie Outaouais AbitibiTemiscamingue the Cree territory James Bay and Nunavik These territories represent a population of 17 million people living across 953000 square kilometres

The McGill RUIS coordinates tertiary healthcare services teaching and research activities within this territory and provides specialized care and training activities to the regions

The original partner hospitals that make up the McGill University Health Centre MUHCthe Montreal Childrens Royal Victoria Montreal General and Montreal Neurological hospitals and the Montreal Chest Institutealong with McGill University make the MUHC the leading institution it is today In April of 2008 the Lachine Hospital and CamilleLefebvre Pavillion became the newest members of the MUHC

New Intensive Care Unit ICU at the Montreal Chest Institute The new ICU includes individual rooms with flatscreen TVs patient lifts and an enhanced ventilation system and nursing monitoring station The 18 million project was financed by the Montreal Chest Institute Foundation through the Best Care For Life campaign

The Child Development Program Based at the Montreal Childrens Hospital the Child Development Program helps children who require special assistance with complex issues such as socioemotional health language or behaviour

Lifesaving new procedure a resounding success In a worlds first surgeons at the MUHC led by Dr Renzo Cecere implanted a minimallyinvasive cardiac support system called the Impella 50 into a patient suffering from acute rejection after a heart transplant The life saving operation allowed the patients condition to stabilize and respond to antirejection medications
