Langley Care Society was founded in 1974 and continues today to provide care for seniors who require 24 hour nursing care The organization is a registered nonprofit society since the 1970s and has registered charitable status with Canada Revenue Agency We are fully accredited by Accreditation Canada ensuring a high standard of care and organizational effectiveness Please read our complete history prepared by Langley historian Doris Riedweg

The Langley Care Society operates Langley Lodge under license by the Residential Care Services division of Fraser Health Authority Additional to our primary mandate the Langley Care Auxiliary work to raise funds to supplement services which directly benefit our residents Please read more about our our Auxiliary Group in the pages in the Volunteers section

History

HISTORY
The need for long term seniors care in Langley

The concept of Langley Lodge began in 1971 in response to a lack of longterm care services in the city A twoandahalf year community planning initiative spearheaded by then Rotary President and local businessman Roy Brown resulted in what stands today as Langley Lodge a familiar landmark in Langley

When the doors opened in 1974 the facility operated as a 172 bed personal care residence The Langley Special Care Homes Society was formed in 1971 and continues today as the nonprofit Langley Care Society operater of the Langley Lodge Over the years to keep up with community needs and changes in healthcare services for seniors Langley Lodge has undergone continual changes In 1978 Langley Lodge opted into the Ministry of Health Long Term Care Program In order to provide Intermediate Care the facility needed upgrading The list of needs included therapeutic bathing units new elevators and some private rooms
