History

Kings College Hospital opened its doors in 1840 close to Lincolns Inn Fields In 1913 the hospital moved south of the Thames to Denmark Hill HM The Queen opened the newest wing of the hospital in 2003

Medicine has seen many changes during the 160 years that Kings has been treating patients from surgery without anaesthetic to liver transplants Nursing as a profession has developed during this period In 1948 the NHS was created and Kings was granted Teaching Hospital status Kings College Hospital became an NHS Foundation Trust in December 2006
