History

Our History
HOLY FAMILY HOSPITAL the Sisters of Providence

Holy Family Hospital was founded by three Sisters of Providence of St Vincent de Paul who came to Vancouver from Ontario by train in 1947 The Sisters whose philosophy was to never turn anyone away managed to accommodate 15 to 23 patients at a time in the original fivebedroom home

Eventually they expanded to a 52bed facility with a focus on arthritis and stroke patients Expansions in the 1970s and again in the 1990s brought Holy Family to its current 76 rehabilitation and 142 extended care beds as well as a renowned ambulatory rehabilitation program for seniors

Now a provincial leader in the multidisciplinary care of older people Holy Family Hospital became part of Providence Health Care in 1997 and maintains the spirit of its founding Sisters by tending to the physical emotional and spiritual care of its patients
