History

History of Groves
For more than a century Groves has served its constituents in the same spirit of caring and vision for which its founder Dr Abraham Groves is known His career was marked by many medical firsts and Dr Groves was one of the true pioneers of modern surgery

Dr Groves opened the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Fergus in 1902 In 1932 he presented his lifes work his hospital to the Village of Fergus

In the early 1950s many local business people came to the aid of the hospital when the growing community outgrew the original building Through donations from many organizations the present building was constructed in 1955 New wings were added in 1965 and 1980 to service a growing community and make room for new technology Groves continues to grow and develop along with a dynamic and everchanging health care system

Groves has gone through many changes from its beginnings to the important role it plays today as a respected healthcare organization with many patient services Strategic alliances formed with North Wellington Health Care and Hamilton Health Sciences help ensure that patients have access to the right care at the right time in the right place Partnershipsincluding those with the WaterlooWelllington Local Health Integrated Network LHIN help ensure that more of your healthcare dollars go toward patient care

The Hospital recently completed a Strategic Planning process and developed a Master Program and Master Plan The Plan recommends building a new hospital on a greenfield site A Business Plan supporting a new hospital was submitted to the Ministry of Health and LongTerm Care in September 2006

Groves continues to keep pace with new treatments and advances in medicine technology and management so that you continue to get the best health care
