History

Wangaratta Private Hospital History
In 1989 Geoff Carruthers Executive Director of Wangaratta Regional Development Corporation WRDC approached Geoff Dreher Managing Director of Healthscope Limited on behalf of the WRDC to ask if Healthscope would consider building and operating a private hospital in Wangaratta

Through the concentrated efforts of the Wangaratta community and the foresight of the WRDC which staunchly believed in the project and the future economic development of Wangaratta Wangaratta Private Hospital was begun

In March 1992 after an extraordinary amount of work by Mr Carruthers and his team at the WRDC as well as the staff of Healthscope a licence was granted by the Victorian Government to operate a 40 bed acute general private hospital in Wangaratta

Architect Colin Stevens of Eggleston MacDonald was chosen to provide an innovative and unique design for the Hospital and Hooker Cockram became the successful tenderer for the building which commenced in September 1993 Inpatient services were commenced on 22nd November 1994

Wangaratta Private Hospital now owned and operated by Ramsay Healthcare is a 34bed Acute Medical and Surgical hospital
