Description

When the North Queensland Day Surgical Centre situated in Townsville first opened its door in September 1995 a dream became a reality for one of Australias leading Ophthalmic Surgeons Dr Lee Lenton

Dr Lenton wanted a centre which would achieve the highest of standards applying the best procedures and using the latest technology to the advantage of patients staff and surgeons

The result is a registered independent free standing ambulatory Day Surgery specializing in Cataract Refractive Glaucoma Vitro retinal Strabismus and other ocular surgery It is the first of its kind to receive accreditation from the ACHS on 13th June 1997 The centre now has dual accreditation as ISO 9002 also gave its seal of approval on the 25th March 1999

The centre believes in open communication between eye care specialists sharing information to benefit both the patients and the eye care specialists Although fully equipped to perform general anaesthesia the majority of surgery is done under local neurolept anaesthetic The presence of an anaesthetist ensures that every patient is completely relaxed before and during surgery Patients walk in and out of surgery and are able to return home immediately after

In place at the surgery is a computer monitoring infection control system which records the progress of all instruments from steriliser to patient ensuring that there is no risk of contamination

Recently the surgery has expanded its facilities to include Dental surgery and hair reduction laser surgery The inclusion of a Phacolaser is another example of the dedication to provide the latest technology and best service to both patients and surgeons
