Dr Fraenkel graduated from the Flinders University among the top few in his class He has studied in Australia England and the USA He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists Dr Fraenkel is a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons

He has been a Senior Clinical Lecturer with the University of Adelaide teaching cataract and corneal surgery

Dr Fraenkel special interests are in the areas of cataract surgery refractive amp corneal surgery He has published an impressive list of academic papers and participated in a number of research projects Dr Fraenkel has also established an enviable reputation as a lecturer

Dr Fraenkel was the first Ophthalmologist in Australia to join The Fred Hollows Foundations International Mentoring and Fund Raising Programme As a result he donates a portion of his surgical fee for each operation he performs to facilitate one sight restoring cataract operation in a developing country
