About
St John Hospital and Medical Center North Shores Campus has served the community since 1925 and been a valued member of St John Providence Health System since 1984 On November 1 2010 the North Shores campus transitioned as follows

Outpatient rehabilitation patients will continue to be seen at the North Shores campus until a new outpatient location opens in Harrison Township more info below In addition a lab drawstation remains at the site Hours for Lab are 7 am to 7 pm weekdays Outpatient Rehab is open from 6 am to 7 pm weekdays

All rehabilitation inpatients were transitioned to the new Cracchiolo Rehabilitation Center located at St John Hospital and Medical Center

The Emergency Department Imaging and all other services ceased on November 1

In Spring of 2011 St John Providence Health System will open a new outpatient facility at the corner of Metro Parkway and Crocker former Sears location with extended hours urgent care Xray a lab drawstation outpatient rehab and a physician practice More information will be provided as details are available

North Shores will always be remembered for its familylike atmosphere and deep commitment to providing outstanding care for its patients That patient focus will live on both in the new outpatient facility and at the Cracchiolo Rehabilitation Center

History of North Shores
The hospital in Harrison Township known as quotNorth Shoresquot has a rich history of service to the community

1925 Memorial Orthopedic Hospital designed by Albert Kahn opens to treat polio patients age six months to 14 years

1950s The occupancy rate of Memorial Orthopedic Hospital declines following the discovery of the Salk vaccine and the hospital closes in 1957

1963 William Anderson purchases the hospital and opens it as an acute care general hospital which does not obtain Blue Cross provider approval Mr Anderson sues Blue Cross Blue Shield and loses

1966 Hospital is renamed Clinton Valley Hospital and gets Medicare approval Census improves but debt looms leading to bankruptcy and closing in 1968

1969 Young Israel Council of Metropolitan Detroit purchases the facility and opens it as the 96bed nonprofit acute care Harrison Community Hospital

1970 through 1983 Harrison Community Hospital undergoes major renovation A critical care unit is added 1975 and a physician builds an adjacent clinic 1983

1983 Reimbursement changes force Harrison Community Hospital to entertain options for acquisition St John Health Corporation acquires the hospital in 1984

1988 Hospital is renamed St John Hospital Macomb Center and converted to a specialty hospital focusing on Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Addiction Treatment and Outpatient Surgical Services

1999 Hospitals name is changed to St John North Shores Hospital North Shores expands its rehabilitation program and receives a federal grant for stateoftheart neurological equipment The facility is recognized by Medicare and Consumer Reports as the top hospital for patient satisfaction in metro Detroit

20092010 St John Providence Health System decides to retire North Shores Hospital moving inpatient rehab care to the new Cracchiolo Rehabilitation Center at St John Hospital in November 2010 Outpatient services move to a site in Harrison Township in January 2011
