SMMC has been providing quality medical care to this community since 1906 On February 24 1979 we opened our present facilities near Exit 32 formerly Exit 4 of the Maine Turnpike offering a full range of medical surgical obstetric mental health and educational services to York County

The Medical Staff of Southern Maine Medical Center consists of approximately 200 active physicians plus consulting courtesy honorary physicians and allied health professionals They represent the specialties of family and general practice internal medicine obstetrics and gynecology including the subspecialties of cardiology dermatology pulmonology oncologyhematology neurology gastroenterology and allergyimmunology pediatrics general surgery orthopedic surgery otorhinolaryngology urology ophthalmology oral surgery and general dentistry psychiatry pathology podiatry anesthesiology radiology emergency medicine and occupational medicine In addition SMMC has an ongoing physician recruitment program working to attract primary care and specialist physicians to meet the growing needs of the community
