History

Our History
Just seven short years after the City of Sierra Vista incorporated our hospital made its debut as Western Baptist Osteopathic Hospital on October 7 1963 With just three physicians on staff and 36 employees the fledgling hospital put down long and tenacious roots evolving into our dynamic multifaceted healthcare organization that we enjoy today

Formed in 1964 the first Board of Trustees was established Always evaluating the healthcare needs of the community the Board of Trustees continually assesses what the future holds for healthcare ensuring that SVRHCs services cover a wide range of age demographics and medical requirements

For the past fortyfive years SVRHC has made tremendous progress as a community hospital because of the dedicated men and women on our staff and in our community who have provided service and support to our hospital Beginning with only three physicians in 1963 SVRHC now has 69 active medical staff to address the increase in the populations medical needs Within the last five years SVRHC has added about 45 active physicians serving in various specialties from Family Medicine to Podiatry and Oncology to Internal Medicine

In 2007 the hospital became a teaching facility with the implementation of a new residency program in Internal Medicine Continuing for a fourth year the residency program graduated three internal medicine residents In July 2010 the hospital expanded the program adding a residency in Family Medicine

There have been numerous changes and renovations over the last five years The Maternal Child Department became a Level II Nursery increased patient loads required that the Emergency Department Client Services and Pharmacy be remodeled to allow for a smoother flow of patients and visitors SVRHC worked on bringing Teletrauma Cardiac Catheterization and a new 64 slice Computer Tomography CT to the facility in an effort to decrease the number of patients going to Tucson A Stereotactic Biopsy table has been added to enhance diagnostic clinical services The Carter Imaging Center opened and our Rehabilitation Center was renovated An increasing need for space necessitated the expansion of the MedicalTelemetry MedicalSurgical and Critical Care Units SVRHCs community outreach program was expanded with the addition of a Community Benefit Coordinator and the Wellness Depot to bring the community new and beneficial programs

Forty eight years later seven reconstruction projects and numerous renovations along with 800 dedicated staff members SVRHC is still the healthcare leader in southeastern Arizona With the Carter Imaging Center completed and new projects ready to begin the hospital continually seeks new and innovative ways to serve the community

Early antibiotics for blood poisoning could save thousands of lives doctor says

A Winnipeg doctor has a plan to save as many as 5000 Canadian lives for little cost Providing antibiotics to patients with severe sepsis a form of blood poisoning caused by infections soon after they roll through hospital doors Though it sounds simple enough some hospitals for both bureaucratic and philosophical reasons are not willing to jump on...
